Born and raised in New Zealand, Erika moved to Japan two years ago. After working with IGNITE for about four years as a part-timer and freelancer, she joined as a full-time employee in November 2023. She currently serves as a bilingual director handling international clients, covering everything from research and planning to translation.
Going forward, she aims to support the company's growth while bridging Japan and the world as a bilingual director, sharing the appeal of Japan along the way.
What made you join IGNITE?
It all started when I received an offer from our CEO's father. I had always wanted a career that would make the most of my bilingual skills, especially in English-Japanese translation, so this felt like the perfect fit. I initially came on board as a freelancer while juggling other work, and then transitioned to a full-time role when I moved back to Japan.
Tell us about your current role.
My main responsibilities revolve around tasks from international clients. I handle a wide range of work for each project, from research and planning to execution and quality checks.
As the English specialist on the team, I also take care of translation and other English-related tasks.
What's the best part about working at IGNITE?
There are so many things, but the biggest one is that we work remotely, so I can work from anywhere with a laptop. I love traveling, so being able to work while exploring different prefectures and countries is incredibly appealing.
It's also a very welcoming environment for bilingual people and those who grew up abroad, like myself. The work culture feels close to what you'd find overseas, with many open-minded and flexible colleagues. Everyone on the team genuinely respects one another.
What are your future goals?
As a company, I'd love to see us grow our team and scale up. There are still areas we need to strengthen to get there, so I want to help build the foundation for that growth.
Personally, I want to improve my Japanese. Although I'm bilingual, English is my first language and my stronger suit, so I'd like to refine my Japanese expression. I also want to get better at sharing the appeal of Japan with the world.
A message for potential applicants.
This is a great fit for anyone interested in international work, anyone who wants to use their English skills, or anyone looking to learn English. We also have plenty of opportunities to promote Japan's appeal to the world, so if you love Japan, you'll enjoy it here too.
You get to interact with all kinds of people, and it's a really fun workplace. If you're interested, come join us!
